Hi All -
Spam in the officers' email accounts was a topic brought up in the
business meeting last night. Unfortunately, there's not too much to be
done about it, especially after the email addresses have been harvested by
spammers.
The best thing you can do to protect yourself from spam is don't open spam
email. Spam email usually carries a sensor that detects when the message
is opened. It then sends a message back to its source confirming that the
email address is a legitimate and active email account. Then the spammer
knows to send you more spam.
Lyonnete sent me a new trick to try and avoid our addresses from being
harvested again. It involves masking the @ character in the address.
However, this would disable the click-and-send email function (click on
the address, and an email window opens with the To: address filled in)
currently active on the web page. So my question to you, our listening
audience: how much do you use/prefer the click-and-send function on the
web page?
Personally, I copy and paste addresses into my email program of choice.
But not everyone is me (and the world is much quieter because of this).
So, let me know your thoughts, and we can take it from there.
Thanks for your input!
