I wanted to start this report by thanking all the volunteers and
entrants who made Caer Galen A&S such a wonderful event. I also
wanted to congratulate Meradudd Cethin for winning the A&S Champion.
Individuals:
-----
Francesca di Pavia
I had the opportunity to attend several wonderful classes at Caer
Galen A&S, and I also judged a couple of entries. I have been
assisting THL Derdriu on creating a new gown for her Laurel ceremony
(which, fortunately, isn't until April, so we have a little time).
Finally, I have spearheaded a project by Their Majesties' request, to
create eight tabards for Kingdom heralds by Estrella. With lots of
help from several members of the Barony, this project is nearing
completion, and I hope to be able to deliver the tabards to the King
and Queen this weekend at Candlemas in Dragonsspine.
--
Jeanne-Marie Dubois
I wove a hip scarf for a soon to be Turkish Laurel.
--
Randal Carrick
I learned leather tooling at Caer Galen A&S, and am now in
the process of making a bunch of Veterani favors for War.
I also learned about silk painting, and am getting ready for
a project the weekend after Candlemas.
--
Asta Olafsdottir
I've been having fun on scrolls and beaded necklaces. I also had to
get stuff together to teach a calligraphy class at A&S. Mucho fun!!!
--
Cecily de Heselington
I taught a class and a half at Caer Galen A&S (co-taught a class on
documentation, and taught an intro to "The Faerie Queene."), and prepared a
paper on the Elizabethan actor Will Kemp for the competition.
--
Geffroi le crieur
I made a pair of paternosters for entry into Caer Galen A&S, and also
taught Meradudd how to make them - thus helping him win the
competition, to my amusement. I'm currently sewing a Viking-era linen
undertunic for him, with pattern and knowledge help from Keridwen, and
I finished a green wool Viking-era tunic that she'd cut out.
Also, there was various research and writing of documentation.
--
Karen
I worked on appliqué and assembly for 3 of the Kingdom tabards
Mistress Francesca was coordinating.
--
Rozsa Laszlo
In December I taught "Beginning Weaving with an
Inkle Loom" at Caer Galen's Midwinter event. In January I wove four
yards of wool twill fabric as a gift for Their Majesties and
researched period weaving guild ceremonies.
--
Kathryn Brian Chevreuil
Helped teach two workshops on Viking Apron Dresses with Baroness Keridwen;
taught a class on Medieval art at Caer Galen A&S. Also, worked on three
Antaris for Rosza's Laurel Ceremony with Duchess Ileanna, and worked on a
Viking Birka-style tunic and under-tunic set for Bjorn for the same
ceremony. Hemming an undertunic and making pants for Leifr, a Norman
hand-sewn tunic for Rhys, and making a Coptic tunic for Wayland.
--
Savina la Brune
In January I made a gothic fitted dress and hosen for THL Rivka to wear to
her pelican vigils.
--
Pádraig Ó Súileabháin
I reworked the pearls on my beaded headband (used couching this time).
I also worked on more oak tablet weaving cards. And I completed
documentation on the three entries I had in Caer Galen A&S. While
documenting my jewelry entry I stumbled upon more documentation on
period hairpins.(one of my favorite projects to make)
--
Groups and Guilds:
-----
Fiber Guild
We had a fiber corner at Caer Galen A&S. There was a loom for
folks to try out and drop spindle to teach spinning. We had challenged
ourselves to see if we could do a complete shawl woven that day with all the
spinning done with drop spindles. We learned quite a few things and had a
wonderful time. We started at noon and were able to present Baroness
Katherina with a shawl in evening court. The final length of the woven
piece before washing was 80" and after washing was 73".
