I would suggest contacting His Grace Duke Albert in Dragonspine, not only is he an armorer, but his knowledge is amazing about weapons and armor. Get on the Outlands list and ask for him to contact you.

If someone is interested in presenting an hour long, fairly detailed presentation on arms and armor to writers, please let me know.

Perhaps Dona Cecily can provide insight as to how much detail a writer would need to get a good feel for writing on the subject (i.e. list of references, video clips, physically handling items etc.)

    Binhan,
Thank you so much for your response. Perhaps if I explain better what We're looking for you can narrow it down. The most important thing we're looking for is someone who a) is knowledgeable about medieval hand weapons (it doesn't matter to me what area, so long as the lecture is detailed and lasts an hour) and b) has some experience talking to a medium sized group of people (30-60 writers). What we are thinking along the lines of is this: If I want to write a book about a society that is pre-industrial (think Beowulf or King Arthur setting) and has a hero fighting dragons, what would his weapons look like? feel like? act like (how would they work?) What kind of armor or helmet would he wear? Also some resource information would be a great addition.
We're hoping this gives you a better idea of what we need. We're looking for a someone to present a workshop on either Friday, September 14th or Saturday, September 15th. The Conference is in Denver, at the Renaissance Hotel by the old Stapleton. Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers is a nonprofit organization, but we would be willing to pay a small honorarium.
Please let me know if this is something you or one of your colleagues would be willing to do. And again, thank you for your help with this. We'd really love to see a weaponry expert come to the conference.

  Marne and Vicki
